Don't downsize your retirement, rightsize your life

The idea of downsizing often has such negative connotations. You move from your current home to a smaller residence. You get rid of furniture and possessions that will no longer fit into your new space.

But what if you looked at it in a different way?

Rightsizing your life can be seen as an active, positive choice that opens up a world of new possibilities for you and creates a lifestyle that improves your quality of life.

To put it another way, rightsizing your life means asking what’s really important, then aligning the way you live and want to live with those values, goals, aspirations and needs. When you do that, you’ll be able to create the lifestyle that fits in with your social, intellectual, physical and emotional desires for now, and the years to come.

“Our garden was getting too much and I felt we needed to move now, not later.”

What do you value?
Do you really need four or five bedrooms? How often do family and friends come to stay? Do you spend more time trying to find a plumber, roofer, handyman who will turn up and generally maintaining your home rather than enjoying it?

Rightsizing for some may mean moving to a smaller residence. However it could also mean choosing the simplicity, convenience and opportunities that come with being part of a friendly community. Living in your own place alongside like-minded people where you can open your doors to family, friends and out-of-town guests with room for hosting and entertaining. Retaining a sense of grand living and enjoying the independence you want with all the benefits of exceptional facilities on hand.

How do you decide which is right for you?

Start by taking an honest look at what you value so you can make a decision that helps you live truly as you want to.
