We stepped inside and felt at home” Why two new residents plumped for Newlands

Eda Rose-Lawson and her husband George moved from their superb Art Deco home in historic Wallingford, Oxfordshire a little over nine months ago. They now live in one of the elegant three-bedroom detached Cotswold stone cottages in our idyllic landscaped grounds that offers sublime views of the rolling Cotswold countryside. What led to this couture milliner and international company chairman decide to move to Newlands?

George

“ Eda had been suggesting the move to a more manageable property for two years. With two acres of parkland, the lawns, hedges, flowers and a substantial swimming pool were becoming somewhat of a burden even though I have always been a fit, energetic chap. I thought myself quite a decent handyman too until a sudden illness struck me. Once I recovered, the idea of attempting to get the miserable overgrown garden back in shape turned my mind more favourably to my wife’s point of view.”

Eda

“ I love interiors, design and architecture and spent time looking on the net at various properties. I’d always said that if we ever moved it would be to the Cotswolds – it’s so central for everything – unlike where we were living at the time where you had to get into the car for shopping or just to buy a postage stamp.

Then this property at Newlands popped up on Knight Frank. I realised where it was and researched some more, compared similar properties as you do. I wouldn’t have touched the others, many didn’t get passed just on first impression. Then I showed it to George. I thought he would hesitate but no, he was very positive.

We liked the idea of keeping our independence along with having all the qualified nursing care and services available here right on our doorstep if we need them.”

George

“We met some of the residents, many of whom had lived a stone’s through away and had known of Newland’s reputation prior to coming here which says a lot. There are certainly some remarkable residents here that we’re getting to know. In short, I was very impressed by every aspect and Lucy was extremely helpful with the entire process as were the handymen when we moved in. I am also intrigued by the architect of Newlands because it looks so perfect, almost like it’s a film set.”

Eda

“We can enjoy life here on our own. Or whenever we fancy it, we can Indulge in a sociable drink or lunch at Newlands House. And I’ve already joined a group that goes to the theatre in Cheltenham. There’s such a consistent caring attitude here that we feel perfectly comfortable. There is no doubt about it, both of us agree it was the right choice.”
